The str...Hi, a nice little read that, well done :-)<br />The strange-looking grill with a warp and weft (woven) pattern you mention was actually a WW2 air raid shelter. <br /><br />And the object you like with the ivy clinging to it is called a Lucy box. Those boxes were dotted around the city, they were used for the general electricity supply, and as tramway isolators.
